Boooooring.
Had to show up today at work because of "so many pending orders to fulfill."
Well, that's actually true to some extent.
But one of the guys in production got hurt early at nightshift (nothing serious, he's OK), and he had a critical position that couldn't be stuffed until this morning. All production was delayed several hours, including my job.
So, now I'm standing here with nothing to do until time's up.
Six hours wasted.
Well, I get paid.
At least.
But still…it's boooooring!!

Here's one for you.

In #German, there's a #Saying that is about having to brush a hedgehog, "einen Igel zu bürsten." It's means having tedious work to do, or is an excuse to not show up to some gathering because of the alleged hedgehog to brush.

But in the region I grow up, there's a very different meaning to that.
Because, the term brushing (so, "bürsten" but with an sh-sound instead of the usual s-sound) can be used to describe…having sex.
Thus, brushing a hedgehog can be some fun.

You mean something like college/university? Nah.
My elementary school teacher taught me how to use a pen, and later in boarding school I learned how to use a computer.
That's all the education I needed, my head was full of stories since I was pulled out of my mother's undercarriage.

The complete lack of any feelings as I heard about the death of a loved one, and the…circumstances.
If you never experienced that, you can't convey it properly. It's just…as if you yourself became a void. Your mind just can't grasp it.
Very hard to describe.

Now, I'm the "apprentice" again.
Nothing I did those four weeks counts because I did it my way, and not the way he wanted me to do it.

I didn't do anything wrong.
I just figured out my own way to do the same or even more work in the same time we both needed.

My one-year-contract is only valid for another two weeks from today, and I'm truly thinking about not accepting an extension because of this guy…

I'm so angry right now…
The guy who did the packaging together with me at my workplace was sick for four weeks.
That's okay, BTW! He was sick, and that's that. No questions asked because I'm not entitled to know anything.
But I did the same job alone. Nobody told me anything but only after I "messed up." (I didn't, only made things different.)
It worked, I managed the same amount as both of us did.
Today, he came back.
Guess what?

What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?

It's not under-appreciated, but my favorite one.

It's the 1950 novel "Blue Bird" by Anna Müller-Tannewitz aka Anna Jürgen.
It shows the real life of American Natives, especially that of a chapter of the Iroquois tribe who rescued a settler's boy after an attack, and they take him in and raise him as one of their own.
Now guess what?
After he's being "rescued" by cavalry again, he doesn't want to be a white guy anymore…

What's the largest cast you've ever written? What made it challenging?

The largest cast was the one from "The Seven Sins." The seven wanderers, SO's, their parents, and (if I remember correctly…) ~30 others. So, that's a vast amount for me, around 50 characters in one story.
The challenge was to keep track of all the differences between them, so I made a spreadsheet for that.

Talk about an experience when you consulted an expert for a piece of writing.

I have only consulted experts three times yet.
I needed a special phrase in Lakota that I wasn't able to find online, so I contacted the tribe council. Very nice people.
I needed permission for using a reference to an ASL website, and it was granted.
I wanted to use a quote from another author that had died, so I needed permission from the publishers of him. That request was granted too.

How could someone who knows your MC well console them after the last time you made them suffer?

*I* didn't make Kessy suffer, the plot does. The last time this happened was as she fell into the cursed well. (It's not actually cursed, people just call it that because the water level rises and falls "unexplainable.") Rosa was there, she fell in right before. She helped, both stripped, and then lay in the sun to dry. Nothing to console there except for a bruised ego.

How do you "stress test" your work?

First, I let it rest for a week or two to get it out of my mind.
Then, I read it like customers would do.
Whilst, I mark every spelling, punctuation, or other mistake.
After, I edit.
Later, the same process is repeated at least once more.
Thus, I can find inconsistencies, plot holes, and other things I've maybe missed.
Hopefully, this answers the question.

@LianaBrooks@mastodon.online No bribe needed. Usually, my chapters are covering a single day from dawn to dusk. When the setting is changing then that's a new paragraph if the same character is at play, and a new page if another character is shown. I think that way everyone can follow up.

I needed to replace the headlight bulbs on my #Car, so I turned the steering wheel full to one side, opened a flap in each of the wheel arches, and cramped my hand through that little opening. Also, I needed to open the bonnet to be able to see what I'm doing. What a hassle… No doctor would be okay with a procedure where he needs to open a patient's armpits to make an operation on the eyes, and has to watch what he's doing by opening the skull. Why have cars that? It's so stupid…

#WritersCoffeeClub January 8th While editing, what most clearly signals a pacing issue? I have to admit that I don't understand the question. A pacing issue? I can only write as the story goes, it doesn't matter if I write faster if the story line goes fast.
